His Excellency the Right Hon. David Johnston

Governor General of Canada

Rideau Hall, 1 Sussex Drive

Ottawa, Ontario

K1A 0A1

Excellency,

Congratulations on your appointment.

Being a busy woman your predecessor probably never read it, and probably never will, but that is no excuse for her or her staff not acknowledging receiving the book that I am now sending you.

Yes it’s an unpleasant story of corruption in high places and abuse of privilege and the person; a story that a decent person in a position to make a difference would feel compel to try once he or she had become acquainted to what Foreign Affairs did to the messenger in the story Shooting the Messenger.

The Supreme Court of Canada would not read it for that reason, but at least they acknowledged the receipt of the “damned” book (and offered some advice.)

What will you do, Sir?

Yours Sincerely

Would your Excellency please note that this appeal is made under the century’s old tradition of monarchs entertaining petitions from commoners who have no other avenue of redress.

As Queen Elizabeth II’s surrogate and Canada’s titular head of state, I hope you will look favourably on my appeal and use the considerable persuasive powers of your Office to set things right.
