| The Gateway and Haters of the Gitxsan A sample of what pipeline supporters are saying about First Nation opposition to the Gateway. The following comments were made after the Gitxsan First Nation called out Enbridge for exaggerating i.e. lying about First Nation support for the Gateway. Some writers would hunt down and kill the Gitxsan for not wanting a tar pipeline to befoul their pristine forest, streams and rivers. The last time the people who would become known as Canadians exterminated a First Nation, the Beothuks, it was for sport. The Gitxsan, unlike the Beothuks, are better armed. While they would still lose a violent confrontation over those horrible pipelines, they would, I believe, put up a good fight, perhaps because of what Oil and oil money did, and is doing to to First Nation communities in Alberta. Stephen Harper's most damaging legacy in behaving like a shill for the oil industry in the Gateway debate, instead of as a Prime Minister and an honest broker, may be the rekindling of old hatreds based on stereotypes of native people.
